Michael Rose has been on a multi faceted journey through the visual disciplines. Starting out as an artist's rep he soon developed a portfolio of his own work and embarked upon an illustration career which led to Germany and commissions from top magazine and book publishers. In England he worked as a conceptual designer and background painter for animation projects. Later, in the United States, he supervised the visual development team on an MTV animation feature in both New York and Seoul, Korea. At present he is based in Los Angeles and does art direction and visual development for some of the leading studios. He travels frequently for business and pleasure. Along with projects in The United States, his resume also includes projects in Canada,Taiwan, Singapore, Nepal and Israel.
Rose began his painting career in Munich after establishing himself as a successful magazine illustrator and graphic designer in Germany. The stimulating climate of European thinking and aesthetics combined with the self-absorbed taste of baby boom America set the stage for his journey into self-discovery. His early work, which reflects the figurative sensibilities that marked his illustration career, eventually gave way to a subtler, almost intuitive form of handwriting. Figurative form meanders into color fields as he hones in on his animus allowing the paintings to unfold and thus a more intrinsic message to emerge.
